ALERT Network Station Information

Note The ALERT network consists of automated rain and other gages operated by the District and other agencies. The rain gages send a radio transmission to the District's Storm Operations Center (SOC) when enough rain has fallen to "tip" a bucket. The rain depth that triggers a tip varies from 0.01 in. to 0.04 in (1 mm). Other gages send stream or weather station data depending on sensor type. The District also receives data via the GOES network. The GOES network consists of District and USGS rain and stream gages, Remote Automated Weather Stations (RAWS), and automated rain gages operated by other agencies (local, state, and federal). Data are transmitted to the GOES satellite on a regular schedule to minimize interference and signal losses. This means the data can be delayed up to 4 hours unless the gage is set up to send signals when a pre-programmed level is exceeded. The satellite data are then downloaded via the internet at the SOC. Since the data collection process is automated, errors due to transmission problems are possible.  The data available on this web site is provisional and has not been checked or verified for accuracy. These maps and reports were created solely for the convenience of the County and related public agencies.  The County does not warrant the accuracy of these maps and reports, and no decision involving a risk of economic loss or physical injury should be made from the data available on this site.
